9. Other Pertinent Names in Webster's(28)
Having found these meanings around the word "Hinckley," I next
began looking up the names of his closest associates. Before I report what I found back
when I first looked these up, I ought to start with what I discovered this evening
(4/23/97) after writing those up.
9a. Marjorie
President Hinckley's life-long sweetheart and companion is the equally
energetic Marjorie. The following are some words surrounding the alphabetical location of
her name in English.
marionette: A puppet moved by strings.
marish: A fen; a marsh. [Mill Creek, Utah: residence for most of

other God;" 2 Ne. 9:41, Isa. 55:1-3.]
paynim: A pagan; a heathen.
peace: ["Peace, peace, when there is no peace"]
9c. Monson
According to Mormon succession, the next in line to become President of
the Church is Thomas S. Monson, who is currently serving as first counselor to President
Hinckley. Here are some of the words that are found in the vicinity of "Monson":
monseigneur: A French title of honor given to princes,
bishops, and other high dignitaries.
Monson
monsoon: An alternating wind in any region. [go with the flow]
monster: (from L. monstrum, a marvel; from moneo, to
admonish. monition.) A person looked upon with horror on account of extraordinary crimes,
deformity, or power to do harm.

shrine in which the consecrated host is presented for the adoration of the people.
montage: The showing of a series of brief film scenes in rapid
succession to present a series of interconnected ideas. [P.R.]
9d. Packer
The next in line in the Mormon succession is Boyd K. Packer, Acting
President of the Quorum of the Twelve. I looked up his name shortly after (6/27/96) his
general conference talk about the word of wisdom, in which he assured the Saints that
those who advocate abstinence from meat are not ordained of God.
P, p: To mind one's P's and Q's, to be very
careful in behavior.
pabular: (L. pabulum, food, from pasco, to feed.
pastor.) Pertaining to food or pabulum. [Ezk. 34, "shepherds who don't feed the
flock".]
pabulum: Food; fig. food for the mind or intellect. [Isa.
28:7,8, "The priests and the prophet err; all tables full of vomit."]
pace: Rate of progress ["greatest problem" in Church is
"growth"]; -- Thorough-paced, perfect in something bad.
pacer: A horse well-trained in pacing.

ridicule, sarcasm, or the like.

pack: A number of persons united in a bad design or practice; to
assemble or bring together iniquitously and with a view to favor some particular side; to

[remove].
packer: One who packs; one who owns a meatpacking house; one who works
in a meatpacking house.
packinghouse: An establishment where meats are packed for the market.
pact: A contract; an agreement or covenant. [Isa. 28:15,
"covenant with death."]
pad: A quantity of paper used for writing upon. [Conference talk.]
9e. Faust
President James E. Faust is the Second Counselor in the First
Presidency. Several words around his name depict his relationship to President Hinckley.
fatuity: Weakness or imbecility of mind; feebleness of
intellect; foolishness.
fault: (from L. fallo, to deceive) Erroneous.
fauna: The animals adapted to a specific environment.
Faust
favonian: Pertaining to the west wind. [Compare "monsoon"
above; next to "Monson."]
favor: To regard with favor or kindness; to support; to aid or have
the disposition to aid; to be propitious to; to afford advantages for success to; to
render easier; to facilitate.
fawn: To show servile attachment; to flatter; to cringe and bow to
gain favor; to frisk about a person (as a dog).
fealty: Fidelity to a superior; faithfulness of any person to another;
faith.
fear: Solicitude; holy awe and reverence; respect; due
regard, as for persons of authority or worth.
Most of these definitions are not flattering. We must remember that for
each word there is usually an equal and opposite meaning, which could be the appropriate
application. Fear, for example, is usually seen as a fault, but fear of God is not only
good it is essential to our salvation. Pacifying is something the Devil does, but it is
also something a mother does to soothe a troubled child. Each of these men have their
agency and may choose who they will ultimately serve and worship. I personally have been
impacted significantly for good -- toward God -- by each of these men as they
have functioned in their callings. I have also been troubled by some of the things I have
observed which seem to be out of harmony with the standard set forth by the scriptures as
witnessed by the Spirit of God. These men are human, and we should allow them the right to
have weaknesses and make mistakes. That is not where the problem lies. The problem is that
Mormon culture teaches that these men are to be revered as ones who will not mislead us,
rather than as men who point us to God, who is the perfect source of all truth and
righteousness. It is that idolatry which much be overturned. That is the purpose of this
witness -- so that we might refocus, if necessary, our trust in God and none other.
