With the United Nation's proposal to monitor all civilian weapons
world-wide, we must pause for reflection.
History does not suggest, it proclaims with vibrating
decibels, that a government that seeks to disarm its citizens is a government bent on
dictatorship. The Founding Fathers of the United States of America proclaimed that a
well-armed citizenry is the final check on power when all other checks have failed. Those
who seek to take away that God-given right of self defense know that. Their final seizure
of absolute control depends on their seizure of significant weapons from the hands of
Another pre-requisite of freedom that the Founders professed was that
the people be at least moderately virtuous. As a people become wicked, they will deserve
and will automatically fall into tyranny, they warned.
The real choice we Americans have to make here is not whether or not we
should give up our God-given rights of self-defense to a usurping tyranny, but whether or
not this people will turn back to the God that gave them breath and freedom in the first
place. Until we as a nation return to God, we will continue to loose our freedoms one at a
The loss of freedom is directly proportional to the loss of piety. Its
reinstatement will likewise require a genuine repentance which will have to include
significant remorse and restitution. Until that happens, our fate is fixed.
Because the deterioration of ethics and the erosion of freedom have
come by small (albeit relentless) degrees, few comprehend how far we have fallen. How bad
will things have to get before this people awake to a sense of their awful situation and
finally return from their perverse ways? Must we wait for chains, torture, prison camps,
pogroms, mass murders by the government, neighbors turning on neighbors, a ragged
existence, constant fear; or will we learn and internalize the lessons of history without
having to repeat them? The very fact that the U.S. government and the United Nations are
charging down the road of gun confiscation should cause us to tremble before God.
