Greater Things > Jean & Kelly Sharp > Servant's Heart

Having a Servant's Heart to be Acceptable Before God

by
Kelly & Jean Sharp

To whom do we look for the example?

1- WHO hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
2- But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
3- All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
4-Therefore will I divide him [a portion] with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. Isaiah 53

What does being a servant mean in Gods eyes among his people?

26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; 27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: 28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. Matthew 20:26-28

The Kingdom of God operates on Servitude. God being of the greatest giving all.

Grasping the impact of what should be accomplished serving, Gods will.

1- for the perfecting of the saints.

2- for the work of the ministry.

3- Till we all come to the unity of the faith.

4- for the edifying of the body of Christ.

5- to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

6- Speaking the truth in love.

7- Growing into him in all things.

8- To fit joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth.

9- according to the effectual working in the measure of every part.

10- Making increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in Love.

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ: 14 That we [henceforth] be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, [and] cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, [even] Christ: 16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. Ephesians 4:12-16

This gives a full impact of what should be accomplished as all become servants in the Kingdom serving one another in love and unity.

It is the same attitude as if, ye love me, love one another.

If ye serve me serve one another to the fullest.

Mankind should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass many good works of righteousness, that their fruits be evident that of having a servants heart.

Let us read.

John 12:23-28 23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. 25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will [my] Father honour. 27 ¶ Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. 28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, [saying], I have both glorified [it], and will glorify [it] again.

Will we do that which the father has commanded and will command leaving nothing left undone.

The attitude of Thy will be done.

Look at the natural man nature, being as dead. Many cry Me Me Me.

Vice versa.

A life of Service the spiritual man looks at Service as Ye Ye Ye, How can I serve and be of greater service to my fellow mankind.

The worlds way of thinking needs to be put away and the Lords will and way of thinking needs to be ask for.

Ask in Prayer that thy will be done being subjected to Gods spirit of truth in service.

Let us read: John 15:17-21

17 These things I command you, that ye love one another. 18 ¶ If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before [it hated] you. 19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. 20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. 21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

Let not discouragement come at the onset of persecution as our savior was persecuted even unto the giving up the ghost upon the cross, let us also praise the Lord in persecution and adverse opinion.

This is one subject that all need to understand as spoken of in the book of James. Fellowship with the world is an enemy to God.

James 4:4 4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Opposing the worlds ways of wickedness by speaking the ways of God becomes offensive to those who do not understand Truth in the light and life of God. We need to bear all thing patiently trusting in God. It takes a strong believer to hold up in these times of trial and tribulation realizing that Jesus suffer these trials also.

We speak the truth boldly that a unity of the faith may come about, uniting those that hear and give ear to fellowship uniting to be straightened in the whole body of Christ.

Galatians 1:10 10 ¶ For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

Be strong and determined to speak truth and live truth regardless of every persecution or gossip or trial.

Keep your eye on being and having a servants heart laying down your earthly lusts that life given words and deeds may be instilled in others at present and for future generations.

Romans 14:3-4 1 ¶ HIM that is weak in the faith receive ye, [but] not to doubtful disputations.
2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. 3 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

We as the body of Christ understand that with God all things are possible and that all things happen in their time and season according as the Lord seemeth fit as he proveth the wicked in their wickedness and the righteous in their righteousness.

Look at what God is doing in your life and not actively judge what God is doing in others lives.

2 Timothy 2:23-26 23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all [men], apt to teach, patient, 25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And [that] they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

1- Avoid foolish and unlearned questions knowing that they bring strife.

2- be gentle unto all mankind, apt to teach, with patience and meekness.

3- knowing that they may recover themselves out of the snares they have intraped themselves into.

The Charter and quality of the servants heart being in God is portrayed in James 1:19

James 1:19 19 ¶ Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

A Loving servants accepts Gods training, with a heart of Kindness, Patient when wrong having gentleness always looking for an individuals bests to be able to teach Gods words in every situation.

This is being subjected unto God that Gods will be given by his Spirit in truth when he directs it, being a servant in his name and for his purposes.

A servants heart always has instilled in his heart the phrase, for me and my house we shall serve the Lord.

Schopenhauer
All truth passes through three stages:
   First, it is ridiculed;
Second, it is violently opposed; and
Third, it is accepted as self-evident.
