777KB Total Cakewalk files; A curious thing happened this evening (3/8/98). The task at hand was to begin considering the ramifications and requirements for having music clips with the web pages. Earlier in the day, I had a conversation with my Brother-in-law, Kevn, to see what is involved in doing this. Meanwhile, I laid down a new arrangment of "a poor wayfaring man of grief." The next task was to see how much memory the midi files take, to measure how much they will affect file-retrieval time. As I opened the Window's explorer, you can guess that I was slightly amused to see that the total amount of memory taken in the "done" file was sitting at 777KB.
I then looked over at the available space remaining on the C:\ drive, and saw how close it was to 777: 745 MB. I then thought how amazing it would have been if both numbers in this Windows Explorer had been 777. To have one line-up of 777 in this context was significant to me, though I would never expect anyone else to think so. However, to have two line-ups simultanous, that would be something else! Then it occurred to me that 745 is separated from 777 by nearly the amount I had momentarily noticed earlier in the day when I took a peek at my recycle bin (to be deleted). It has been a good month or more since I have empied that, and I realized that ought to do it again soon. Anyway, I went back to that window and looked at the amount of memory being occupied by those files: 32.9MB. I pulled out my calculator (shame on me, I should have been able to whip that out in my head), and plugged in the numbers. 745 + 32.9 = 777.9 So what does all that mean, and why would it happen? To me it is just another of a multitude of witnesses that come daily to verify the work I am doing and to signal the hand of God in orchestrating things according to his will. It is like an angel dropping a feather. In this case, it seemed to say to me that putting music on the web sight would be a wonderful thing to do. I love music, and this would be an excellent excuse to record more songs. I would have done that anyway, for I felt good about it, but having something like this happen was just another witness of hundreds that there is a divine, foreordained purpose being wrought here. And the variety of means never seems to cease. Alone, these numbers lining up is worth noting, but there are some circumstances that make this even more meanignful to me. Just two days ago I worked on a write-up in which I added a reference to the 777th chapter of the Bible in the conclusion of the Y2K piece, contrasting it with 666. Also that day, I included that informatoin in one of four pages that will (if all goes as planned) appear on two fliers that will be distribution next week as an insert in BYU's newspaper, The Daily Universe. As you can imagine, having 10,000 fliers announcing this web site hit BYU will be no small event in the history of that campus and of the church. Sterling D. Allan; March 8, 1998 |
