II Nephi HUGE Parallel
2 Nephi -2 - 10+ = 2 Nephi -18 - 28+
(Including Isaiah 8-14, 29, 50, 51)
(2 Nephi 9 (cont.))
(Compare Isaiah 29)
(** 2 Nephi 27** ) |
. |
15 And it shall come to pass |
1 But, behold, in the last days, |
. |
that when |
or in the days of the Gentiles-- |
. |
all men [Rom. 11:32; D&C
133:66,67] |
yea, behold all the nations |
. |
shall have passed from
[shall be taken from them and given
to...]
this first death [metaphor:
falling away]
of the Gentiles [second (last) provocation]
[last shall be first] |
. |
unto life,
[the stone which the builders rejected shall become the
headstone of the corner] |
and also the Jews, [first provocation]
[first shall be last] |
. |
insomuch as they have become immortal,
[no more death; but changed in a
twinkling...]
[Q. Does this parallel suggest that the end of death will
not come to the whole world at the same time but will coincide with the
establishment of Zion, first in the New Jerusalem, and finally to all the
world?] |
both those who shall come upon this land
[New Jerusalem established here, first]
and those who shall be upon other lands,
[e.g. then at Jerusalem of Old]
yea, even upon all the lands of the earth,
[e.g. then among the heathen]
[Zion shall eventually fill the whole
earth] |
. |
they must appear before the judgment-seat |
behold, they will be drunken with iniquity
[According to Zenos = allegory,
coincident with the spreading of Zion C the grafting
in of good branches C will come the destruction of the wicked C the plucking
off of the bad branches.] |
. |
of the Holy One of Israel; |
and all manner of abominations-- |
. |
and then |
2 And when that day |
. |
cometh |
shall come |
. |
the judgment, |
they shall be visited of the Lord of Hosts, |
. |
and then must they be judged |
with thunder
and with earthquake,
and with a great noise,
and with storm,
and with tempest,
and with the flame of devouring fire. |
. |
according to the holy judgment of God. |
3 And all the nations that fight against Zion,
and that distress her, |
. |
16 And assuredly, as the Lord liveth,
for the Lord God hath spoken it, |
shall be as |
. |
and it is his eternal word, [sure]
[vs.] |
a dream of a night vision; [fleeting] |
. |
which cannot pass away, |
yea, it shall be unto them, |
. |
that they who are righteous [sure]
shall be righteous still,
and they who are filthy
shall be filthy still;
even as unto [fleeting]
. a hungry man
. . which dreameth,
. . . and behold he eateth
. . . . but he awaketh
. . . . . and his soul is empty;
or like unto
. a thirsty man
. . which dreameth,
. . . and behold he drinketh
. . . . but he awaketh
. . . . . and behold he is faint, |
. |
wherefore, they who are filthy
[no rest for the wicked] |
. . . . . and his soul hath appetite;
[insatiable greediness] |
. |
are the devil and his angels; |
yea, even so shall the multitude of all the
nations be |
. |
and they shall go away |
that fight against |
. |
into everlasting fire, prepared for them;
and their torment is as a lake of fire and brimstone,
whose flame ascendeth up forever and ever and has no end. |
Mount Zion.
[the Lord shall be the light of Zion] |
. |
17 O the greatness and the justice
of our God! [vs.] |
4 For behold, all ye that doeth iniquity, |
. |
For he executeth [arm of the
Lord revealed] |
stay yourselves [the fear of
the Lord shall smite them] |
. |
all his words, [words: 3 Ne.
21:11] |
and wonder, [marvelous work
& wonder (3 Ne 21:9)] |
. |
and they have gone forth out
[@which the Father shall cause him to bring
forth@ (21:11)] |
for ye shall cry out, |
. |
of his mouth,
[@my words, who am Jesus Christ@ (21:11)] |
and cry;
[@kings shall shut their mouths@ (3 Ne.
21:8)] |
. |
and his law
[versus: every man walketh in his own way (DC 1:15)] |
yea, ye shall be drunken
[stupor/ripe in iniquity] |
. |
must be fulfilled. |
but not with wine, [play on
words] |
. |
18 But, behold, the righteous,
the saints of the Holy One of Israel,
ye |
. |
they who have believed in the Holy One of
Israel,
they who have endured the crosses of the
world,
and despised the shame of it,
shall stagger [opp.] |
. |
they shall inherit the kingdom of God, which was
prepared for them from the foundation of the world,
and their joy shall be full forever.
but not with strong drink. [opp.] |
. |
19 O the greatness of the mercy
of our God, the Holy One of Israel!
[for those of contrite spirit (Isa. 66:2)] |
5 For behold, the Lord hath poured out
upon you the spirit of deep sleep.
[delusion; because when he called none did
answer (Isa. 66:4)] |
. |
For he delivereth his saints
[awake, awake]
[to be watchmen; the salt of the earth] |
For behold, ye have closed your eyes,
[if your eye offend you... (JST-Mark 9:46)] |
. |
from that awful monster the devil, [perdition:
who seeks to take the kingdom of God and
his Christ] |
and ye have rejected
[second provocation; perdition] |
. |
and death,
and hell,
and that lake of fire and brimstone, |
the prophets; [prophecy a lie: All is well]
and your rulers, [cause this people to err ]
and the seers [that see not] |
. |
[nothing] |
hath he covered |
. |
which is endless torment. |
because of your iniquity. |
. |
20 O how great the holiness of our God! |
6 And it shall come to pass that the Lord God |
. |
For he knoweth all things,
[the vision of all ...÷] |
shall bring forth unto you the words
[...is come unto you as the words...
9 (Isa.
29:11)] |
. |
and there is not anything save he knows it. |
of a book, [of a book that is sealed (BofM)] |
. |
21 And he cometh into the world |
and they shall be the words [John 1:1] |
. |
that he may save all men |
of them which have slumbered. |
. |
if they will hearken |
7 And behold the book |
. |
unto his voice;
[unto many is given to know the mysteries of God
until they know them in full (Alma 12:10)] |
shall be sealed;
[if they receive this hundredth part, then shall the
greater things be made known (3 Ne. 26:9,10)] |
. |
for behold, he suffereth [the atonement is
the
the pains of all men, most important thing
yea, the pains (Alma 7:7-15)] |
and in the book shall be
a revelation from God,
[BofM contains the fulness of the gospel
(D&C 20:9)] |
. |
of every living creature, |
from the beginning of the world |
. |
both men, women, and children, who belong to the family
of Adam. |
to the ending thereof. |
. |
22 And he suffereth this [so that] |
8 Wherefore, because of

[ˆ condition of coming forth of greater things] |
in the day of the wickedness and abominations of
the people. |
. |
24 And if they will not |
Wherefore |

repent
and believe in his name,
and be baptized in his name,
and endure to the end,

the book |

for the Lord God,
the Holy One of Israel,
has spoken it.
shall be kept from them.
[unto their condemnation] |
. |
a 25 Wherefore, he has given
b a law;
b 9 But the book
a shall be delivered
º unto a man, [i.e.
Joseph Smith]
a and he shall deliver
b the words of the
book,

a and he shall deliver
b these words

[bind up the law, seal up the testimony] |

26:10)] |

Israel

B shall he deliver
. |
A because of the atonement; |
A the book. [see above match
regarding Arevelation...@] |
. |
for they are delivered |
For the book shall be sealed |
. |
by the power of him. |
by the power of God, |
. |
26 For the atonement |
and the revelation |
. |
satisfieth |
which was sealed |
. |
the demands of his justice |
shall be kept in the book |
. |
upon all those who have not the law given to them, |
until the own due time of the Lord, |
. |
that they are delivered from
that awful monster,
death
and hell,
and the devil,
and the lake of fire and brimstone,
which is endless torment;
that they may come forth;
. |
and they are restored |
for behold, they reveal all things |
. |
to that God who gave them breath, |
from the foundation of the world |
. |
which is the Holy One of Israel. |
unto the end thereof. |
. |
27 But wo unto him
[therefore make straight the way of the
Lord] |
11 And the day cometh
. |
that has the law |
that the words of the book which
were sealed |
. |
given, |
shall be read upon the house tops; |
. |
yea,
and they shall be read by the power of Christ;
[the sure word of prophecy] |
. |
that has all the commandments of God,
like unto us, |
and all things shall be revealed
unto the children of men
which ever have been
among the children of men,
and which ever will be
even unto the end of the earth. |
. |
and that transgresseth them,
[you have treated lightly the things you
have received] |
12 Wherefore, at that day when the book shall be
delivered
unto the man of whom I have spoken,
[And behold, how oft you have transgressed the
commandments and the laws of God, and have gone on in the persuasions of
men. (D&C 3:6)] |
. |
and that wasteth the days of his probation,
[which vanity and unbelief ÿ] |
the book shall be hid from the eyes of the world,
[have brought the whole church under condemnation
(D&C 84:55)] |
. |
for awful is his state!
[if ye can =t understand/see it is because ye ask not,
nor seek, and are not brought into the light but must perish in the
dark (2 Ne. 32:4)] |
that the eyes of none shall behold it
save it be that three witnesses shall behold it,
. |
28 O that cunning plan of the evil one!
[ @Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD,
and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who
knoweth us? Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as
the potter's clay.@
(Isa. 29:15)] |
by the power of God,
[ @And they also say (to God): Surely, your turning of things upside
down shall be esteemed as the potter's clay. But behold, I will show unto
them, saith the Lord of Hosts, that I know all their works.@ (2 Ne. 27:27)] |
. |
O the vainness, [@because of
vanity and unbelief...@]
and the frailties, [it is the work of men,
not God,
and the foolishness that is frustrated
(D&C 6:3)]
of men! |
besides him to whom the book shall be delivered;
[ @God is merciful; therefore, repent..., and thou art still chosen,
and art again called to the work; except thou do this, thou shalt be
delivered up and become as other men, and have no more gift.@ (D&C 3:10,11)] |
. |
When they are learned [of
man=s wisdom] [vs.] |
and they shall testify [by
the Spirit of God] |
. |
they think they are wise, [folly] [vs.] |
to the truth of the book [revelation from God] |
. |
and they hearken [to arm of
flesh rather than!] |
and the things therein. |
. |
not [therefore!] |
13 And there is none other |
. |
unto the counsel of God, |
which shall view it, [even as
Brother of Jared] |
. |
for they set it aside, [sacred treated lightly] |
save it be a few [shall
be sealed by God] |
. |
supposing |
according to |
. |
they know of themselves, [vs.] |
the will of God, |
. |
wherefore, their wisdom is foolishness
[vs.] |
to bear testimony of his word |
. |
and it profiteth them not. |
unto the children of men;
[of great benefit to fellow beings
(Mosiah 8:18)] |
. |
And they shall perish. |
for the Lord God hath said |
. |
29 But to be learned
[The Lord hath given me the tongue of the learned
{of God} (Isa. 50:4)] [@The
vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed,
which men deliver to one that is learned, {of man} saying, Read
this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed.@ (Isa. 29:11)] |
that the words of the faithful
. |
is good
should speak as if it were from the dead.
[Critics of the BofM say that the Isaiah 29 verse that
mentions speaking from the dead is a reference to the occult. They cannot
accept that Isaiah could us this metaphor to describe the departed BofM
peoples speaking to us through a buried record.] |
. |
if they hearken |
14 Wherefore, the Lord God will proceed to bring
forth |
. |
unto the counsels of God. |
the words of the book; |
. |
30 But wo unto the rich,
[out of the desires of the heart] |
and in the mouth of as many
[by their fruits shall ye know them] |
. |
who are rich as to the things of the world.
[treasure = god] |
witnesses
[shall stand as a witness against them] |
. |
For because they are rich [supposing
they are better]
they despise the poor,
and they persecute the meek,
as seemeth him good
[for the Lord looketh not on the outward
appearance] |
. |
and their hearts ÷
are upon their treasures;
wherefore, their treasure ÷ is their God.
And behold, their treasure shall
perish with them also.
will he establish
his word;
[@My law I will write in
their hearts@ (Jer. 31:33)] |
. |
31 And wo unto |
and wo be unto |
the deaf that will not hear;
for they shall perish.
him that rejecteth the word of God! |
. |
32 Wo unto the blind that will
not see;
for they shall perish also.
15 But behold, it shall come to pass [1823]
that the Lord God shall say unto him to whom he shall deliver the book [Joseph Smith]: Take these words which are not
sealed [from first 1/3 BofM] and deliver
them to another [Martin Harris], that he may show
them unto the learned [Charles Anthon],
saying: Read this, I pray thee. And the learned shall say: Bring
hither the book, and I will read them. |
. |
33 Wo unto the uncircumcised of heart,
[hidden motives revealed] |
16 And now, because of the glory of the world
and to get gain will they [not just Charles, nor Martin: what about us?] say this,
. |
and not for the glory of God.for a knowledge
of their iniquities
[@shall be read upon the housetops@ (2
Ne.27:11)] |
17 And the man shall say: I cannot bring
the book, [@reveals all
things from the foundation of
the world to the end thereof @ (2 Ne.
27:10)] |
. |
shall smite them at the last day.
[with the rod of his mouth (Isa. 11:4)] |
for [part of] it is sealed.
[ @I will bring forth out of darkness unto light all their
secret works and their abominations@ (Alma
37:25)] |
. |
34 Wo unto the liar, |
18 Then shall the learned say:
[Mr. Anthon rescinded his testimony (JS-H.
1:64,65)] |
. |
for he shall be thrust down to hell.
[perish in the dark] |
I cannot read it.
[refuse the light] |
. |
35 Wo unto the murderer who deliberately killeth,
[attempts on Joseph=s life to get
plates] |
19 Wherefore it shall come to pass, that the Lord God will
deliver again the book and the words thereof |
. |
for he shall die. [martyred] |
to him that is not learned; [=Joseph
Smith] |
. |
36 Wo unto them who commit
whoredoms,
[secular womanizers berating religious
poygamists] |
and the man that is not
learned
[trusting in the arm of flesh = whoredom
(D&C 3; Jer.)] |
. |
for they shall be thrust down to hell.
[until they know nothing = chains of hell
(Alma 12:)] |
shall say: I am not learned.
[compare those who refuse to seek wisdom] |
. |
37 Yea, wo unto those that worship idols, |
20 Then shall the Lord God say unto him: |
. |
for the devil of all devils
[sought to take the kingdom of our God and
His Christ] |
The learned
[who exalt their own wisdom above that of
God] |
. |
delighteth in them [idols]. [therefore...] |
shall not read them [words of life], |
. |
38 And, in fine, wo unto all those |
for they |
. |
who die in their sins; |
have rejected them, |
. |
A for they shall return to God,
[Moses 1:39] |
A and I am able to do mine own
work; |
. |
and behold
B his face,
wherefore thou shalt read
B the words
. |
C and remain in their sins.
[justice] |
C which I shall give
[purification through grace] |
. |
| 39 O, my beloved brethren, |
unto thee. |
. |
D remember |
D 21 Touch not |
. |
E the awfulness
in transgressing against that Holy God, [rejecting ÷]
[a light which shineth in darkness... ÷] |
E the things which are sealed,
[greater light and knowledge]
[and the darkness comprehendeth it not] |
. |
E and also the awfulness
of yielding
E for I will bring them forth
[when we yield our hearts to God] |
. |
D to the enticings of that cunning
one.
[And they that will harden their hearts, to them
is given the lesser portion of the word until they know nothing concerning
his mysteries; and then they are taken captive by the devil, and
led by his will down to destruction. Now this is what is meant by the chains
of hell. (Alma 12:11)] |
D in mine own due time;
[God will reveal all things when we will exercise
faith even as the brother of Jared... (Ether 4:7)] |
. |
C Remember, to be carnally-minded is
death,
[they seek a sign to heap it upon their
lusts] |
C for I will show unto the children of
men
[testimony of earthquakes, pestilence,
sword, famine...] |
. |
B and to be spiritually-minded
[dwell in the vine]
is [confidence/hope in Jesus
Christ]
B that I am
[...that I am (Exo. 3:14)]
able to do [all things are
possible]
. |
A life eternal.
[ @to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man@ (Moses 1:39)] |
A mine own work.
[ @C This is my work and my glory ] |
. |
40 O, my beloved brethren, |
22 Wherefore, when thou |
. |
give ear to |
hast read |
. |
my words. |
the words |
. |
Remember the greatness of the Holy One of
Israel. |
which I |
. |
Do not say that I have spoken hard things |
have commanded thee, |
. |
against you; |
and obtained the witnesses |
. |
for if ye do, ye will revile against the truth; |
which I have promised unto thee, |
. |
for I have spoken |
then shalt thou seal up |
. |
the words |
the book again, |
. |
of your Maker. |
and hide it up unto me, |
. |
I know that the words of truth |
that I may preserve the words |
. |
are hard against all uncleanness; |
which thou hast not read, |
. |
but the righteous fear them not,
[therefore, rend that veil of unbelief
(Ether 4:15)] |
until I shall see fit [then
shall the great and
marvelous things be revealed (Ether 4:15)] |
. |
for they love the truth |
in mine own wisdom |
. |
and are not shaken. |
to reveal all things unto the children of
men. |
. |
41 O then, my beloved brethren, |
23 For behold, |
. |
come unto the Lord, |
I am |
. |
the Holy One. |
God; |
. |
Remember |
and I am |
. |
that his paths |
a God
[As man is, God once was; as
God is, man may become] |
. |
are righteous. [His
righteousness] |
of miracles; [mighty
change] |
. |
Behold, the way |
and I will show |
. |
for man |
unto the world |
. |
is |
that I am |
. |
narrow,
but it lieth in a straight course before
him,
the same |
. |
and the keeper of the gate
is the Holy One of Israel;
yesterday, today, and forever; |
. |
and he |
and I |
. |
employeth |
work |
. |
no |
not |
. |
servant |
among [Immanuel] |
. |
there; |
the children of men |
. |
and there is none other way |
[none] |
. |
save it be |
save it be |
. |
by the gate; |
according to their faith. |
. |
for he cannot be deceived,
[Compare: Astrong delusion@ sent to the
people of God when they refuse to abide in the Lord=s paths.
(Isa. 66:4; 2 Thes. 2:11)] |
24 And again it shall come to pass
[ Aagain the second time:@ The Jews
looked beyond the mark; now the Gentiles are caught in arrogant stupor.
However, both of their follies will be turned to glory when all is set
aright.] |
. |
for the Lord God is his name. |
that the Lord shall say |
. |
42 And whoso |
unto him |
. |
knocketh, |
that shall read the words |
. |
to him will he open; |
that shall be delivered him: |
. |
and the wise, |
25 Forasmuch as this people draw
near unto me with their mouth, |
. |
and the learned, |
and with their lips do honor me, |
. |
and they that are rich,
[where your heart is, there is your
treasure] |
but have removed their hearts far from me, |
. |
who are puffed up |
and their fear towards me |
. |
because of their learning, |
is taught |
. |
and their wisdom, |
by the precepts |
. |
and their riches-- |
[are nothing] |
. |
yea, they are they whom he despiseth; |
of men-- |
. |
and save they shall |
26 Therefore, I will proceed to do |
. |
cast these things away,
and consider themselves fools before God,
and come down
a marvelous work among this people,
yea, a marvelous work
and a wonder,
. |
in the depths of humility, |
for the wisdom |
. |
a he will not open
b unto them.
b of their wise and learned
a shall perish, |
. |
43 But the things of the wise |
and the understanding |
. |
and the prudent |
of their prudent |
. |
shall be hid |
shall be hid. |
. |
from them forever-- |
27 And wo unto them that seek deep to hide their
counsel from the Lord! |
. |
yea, that happiness which is prepared for
the saints. |
And their works are in the dark; |
. |
44 O, my beloved brethren, remember
my words. |
and they say: Who seeth us, and who
knoweth us? |
. |
Behold, I take off my garments,
and I shake them before you;
And they also say: Surely, your turning of things
upside down
shall be esteemed as the potter's clay.
. |
a I pray the God of my salvation
b that he view me with his
all-searching eye;
b But behold, I will show unto them,
a saith the Lord of Hosts,
[reverse/up-side-down] |
. |
wherefore, ye shall know at the last
day, |
that I know |
. |
when all men |
all |
. |
a shall be judged
b of their works,
b their works.
a [judgement:]
a For shall the work
b say of him
c that made it,
d he made me not?
a Or shall the thing framed
b say of him
c that framed it,
d he had no understanding?
. |
that the God of Israel |
28 But behold, saith the Lord of Hosts: |
. |
did witness |
I will show unto the children of men |
. |
that I shook your iniquities from my soul,
[bind up the law, seal the testimony] |
that it is yet a very little while |
. |
and that I stand with brightness before him, |
and Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field; |
. |
and am rid of your blood. |
and the fruitful field shall be esteemed as a
forest. |
. |
45 O, my beloved brethren, |
29 And in that day shall the deaf |
. |
turn away |
hear the words of the book, |
. |
from your sins; |
and the eyes of the blind |
. |
shake off |
shall see |
. |
the chains |
out of obscurity |
. |
of him that would bind you fast; |
and out of darkness. |
. |
come unto
that God
who is the rock of your salvation.
30 And the meek also shall increase,
and their joy shall be in the Lord,
and the poor among men
shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.
. |
46 Prepare your souls
[that thy confidence may wax strong...] |
31 For assuredly as the Lord liveth
[...in the presence of the Lord] |
. |
for that glorious day |
they shall see |
. |
a when justice shall be administered
b unto the righteous,
b that the terrible one
a is brought to naught, |
. |
even the day of judgment, |
and the scorner is consumed, |
. |
that ye |
and all |
. |
may not shrink |
that watch |
. |
with awful fear; |
for iniquity |
. |
that ye may not remember
[seed of evil-doers shall not be
remembered] |
are cut off; |
. |
your awful guilt [judge
not that ye be not judged] |
32 And they that make a man an offender |
. |
in perfectness, [to the letter] |
for a word, [by the word] |
. |
and be constrained |
and lay a snare for him that |
. |
to exclaim: |
reproveth in the gate, |
. |
Holy, holy |
and turn aside |
. |
are thy judgments, |
the just |
. |
O Lord God Almighty-- |
for a thing of naught. |
. |
but I know my guilt;
I transgressed thy law,
and my transgressions are mine;
33 Therefore, thus saith the Lord, who redeemed
Abraham,
ö concerning the house of Jacob:
. |
and the devil hath obtained me, [vs.] |
Jacob shall not now be ashamed, |
. |
that I am a prey to his awful misery. [vs.] |
neither shall his face now wax pale. |
. |
47 But behold, |
34 But when he seeth |
. |
my brethren, |
his children, |
. |
is it expedient |
the work of my hands, |
. |
that I |
in the midst of him, |
. |
should awake you |
they shall sanctify
my name,
and sanctify
the Holy One of Jacob,
. |
to an awful reality |
and shall fear |
. |
of these things? [things/word
(Heb.)] |
the God of Israel. [the word] |
. |
Would I harrow up |
35 They also that erred |
. |
your souls |
in spirit |
. |
if your minds were pure?
shall come to understanding,
. |
Would I be plain unto you
according to the plainness of the truth |
and they that murmured |
. |
if ye were freed from sin?
shall learn doctrine.
